Today is kind of a big deal. It marks the 4 month anniversary of my first step into the realm of macrobiotic living and feasting. It takes 120 days for the body’s red blood cells to be renewed, and as of today I have been eating and living macrobiotically for precisely 120 days. My red blood cells are now gloriously macro-bionic, happy, healthy and—-who are we kidding, I know nothing about biology.
I do know, however, a bit more about macrobiotics than I did 4 months ago. And I do know, however, that I feel good. And when it comes down to it, ladies and gentleman (or lady and/or gentleman–who are we kidding here, multiple readers, multiple genders??), isn’t that the most important thing: to feel good? I can honestly say that I do not miss anything I have stopped eating, that I do not feel deprived, and that I do not cry myself to sleep because I just want ice cream so bad///. And I think this is mostly because (aside from the fact that everything I thought I’d be missing has equally tasty and satisfying replacements) macrobiotics isn’t about deprivation. I can do what I want. And I will do what I want. Errday. If today is your birthday, and you make a cake oozing with HFCS and bacon drippings and stinky, stinky cheese, I WILL EAT IT. Because I love you. And you are special to me. But when I go home, I’m going to make myself a shit-ton of brown rice and vegetables, and my stomach will probably not be so happy until that (very-strange-choice-of-ingredients-containing) cake passes through and is flushed from my memories.
This isn’t a story of deprivation and sadness. This is a love story, my friends, and NOT of the unrequited variety. In other words: OMG I love brown rice. I love the way it smells, I love the way it tastes, I love the way it..sounds…as it’s whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
And I don’t know if it’s too early to say, but I’m pretty sure it loves me back.
What have I been doing lately?
A lot more being than doing, lately.
But still eating. Here are some things I’ve eaten in the last couple of days. I’m keepin’ it simple, but I’m keepin’ it tasty.
Finally started a little batch of sauerkraut!
And now, the other 50% of what my photo collection consists of these days: CATS. Cats sleeping, cats sitting, cats looking out of windows (to a world they’ll never experience), cats staring at me with what can be described as either confused-amusement or death-eyes. I also have a borderline psychotic amount of videos of cats, in case you’re interested. (P.s. I’m catsitting. I haven’t morphed into crazy-cat-lady since we’ve last spoke…not yet)
And now, lady and/or gentleman, it is time for me and my brand-spankin’-new red blood cells to go get some sleep.
